Florida and Kentucky won't drop from SEC East contention anytime soon, but a conference companion of these two premier, established programs passed them last season and likely will do so again this season.

Tennessee might find it harder to secure the long-term staying power that Florida and Kentucky have built. Through Florida head coach Billy Donovan's hard work and historic consecutive national titles in 2006 and '07, the Gators became an established national power. Kentucky has produced more than a half-century of consistent winning and fan turnout that can challenge that of any program in the country for supremacy. Tennessee, meanwhile, has had to be both creative and resourceful in putting together its program. That it has found success doing so was evident during the Old Spice Classic tournament at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., two weeks ago. The Vols have used high school graduates, redshirt freshmen, junior college transfers and four-year school transfers to become an elite program again.

Vols fan...Here is the truth which is going to sting you my friend:

1. Tennessee football sucks!! Urben Meyer, Nick Saban, Les Miles, and Steve Spurrier will never get Vols football back to what it was in the Philip Fulmer Era. Get used to it sucker your football team is in the making of current ND team. TN football team will be smacked around like little girl on the gridiron for many years to come. Kentucky was never known for football yet we have gradually improved are on our way to 3rd straight Bowl Game. News flash! UT will be watching Kentucky play in the Liberty Bowl since they have nothing better to do.

2. Vols may have the Kentucky's number on the football field but UK have owned Tennessee on the basketball court. As matter of fact Kentucky have owned all other SEC institutions on the basketball court. Loser just because Vols have won ONE Southeastern Conference Championship last year does not make them a dominant force. Florida have a better arguement than your beloved Vols they established that with consistency and winning back to back National Championships.

3. Yep Tennessee is a legit basketball team since they have beaten MTSU, Siena, and Georgetown. What happened when Vols took on Gonzaga who by the way are not that tough if they lost to short handed Arizona Wildcats? Vols got smoked by Temple Owls! O yeah now you are going to come own to earth and claim that this team is so young.

BigBlue, Tennessee has proven way more than any other team in the SEC this year. Tennessee beat Siena then a good Georgetown squad. Then Tennessee (a very young team) hung with Gonzaga (a top 5 team). So playing in the Old Spice Champ game with 4 freshman on the floor is pretty solid. What the f*** has Kentucky done? Ohh yeah, lost to VMI. Does Kentucky have any sports in the last 5 years they can hang their hat on? Nope, just the past...just the past.

Terrible conference for basketball? Are you kiddin me? The SEC has more championships and Final Four teams in the past 5 years than anyone. Good call though. Keep choking in big games UNC. Yall have become the phoenix suns of college basketball.

Big 100 Blue, that loss hurt, but watching UNC dominate UK on a regular basis made up for it. Good luck looking for wins against the St. Mary's School for the Blind in 1914 when we pass yall AGAIN.

Bruce Pearl looks #### with those ORANGE suspenders. Tennessee is not so leaps and bounds ahead of anyone from watching they play against Temple. Florida is not going to scare anyone this year either. Kentucky do have players to compete with anyone in the SEC. Expect more losses to come they have Marquette up next Tuesday plus Belmont, Kansas, Gonzaga, Memphis, Kentucky (2), Florida (2), Vanderbilt (2). Vols should stick with what they are good at playing football. Oh I forgot you suck on the gridiron too. Well at least you can always count on Pat Summitt and Lady Vols.

Tennessee is a one hit wonder. Let's not live in the past as you suggest, they have not proven anything this year. When a team like Kentucky have been good for so long it is hard to stay away from history. Kentucky was suppose to be down last year still we made it to its 17th straight NCAA tournament. Not even Florida as good as they have been in the recent year could not get into the tourney after 18-3 non-conference mark. Widcats are always in contention for the SEC Championship, but in Lexington we are always aiming for the the ultimate prize of college basketball.

Keep dreaming vols fanz, tennessee will be a flop on the court just like their football team was a flop on the field.

Bruce Pearl didn't need "two full year" to get Tennessee where they are! That's what I meant by my earlier comment....Kentucky fans were saying the same thing last year.....Just give Gillispie one year to get his players to buy in.....Will it be "well you just wait until Gillispie has 3 years" next year?!?!??!?! Please....

Yeah a loss to VMI really bodes well for Kentucky's SEC title hopes. Please, UK as far as I am concerned is no better than 3rd in the East and maybe 4th or 5th in the entire SEC. Yeah the SEC is weak this year, which means Tennessee will have no problem running through it. There is no imposing player or anything that will give Pearl and Tennessee any problems this year. While the rest of the SEC is beating each other up, Tennessee and maybe Florida will battle it out to see who will claim the title. Tennessee and Florida are the only legit teams in the SEC right now, and Tennessee is leaps and bounds ahead of where they are.

man...... wildcats fans love to talk about their history, no one is gonna argue about what program has the best program historically big blue, but i'll take a program on the rise with an exciting style over a program that can only cling onto the past glory days of old while trying to ignore that they are not even the second best team in the east this year. Billy G is a weird dude...... and will be gone in a year or 2 because kentucky fans will be tired of finishing behind UT in BASKETBALL. Who will you all beat out of conference this year?? certainly not NC or Louisville, Miami and VCU already beat you (at home) and you have about 8 more games at HOME against competition like Appalachian state and Central Michigan before getting into conference play, i just hope you are ready because honestly it would be good for the SEC to see Kentucky be a top program again.

Kentucky has consistently been the dominant force in the SEC. We have been to the NCAA tournament 17 straight years. Last year was suppose to have been our down year when no one expected Wildcats to make the NCAA tourney yet somehow they managed to post 12-4 SEC mark on their way to the tournament. Kentucky finished second last year two games behind Tennessee how can you say they are not even the second best team in the SEC east. Thus far Florida have not even proven they are the second best in the SEC east. I will remind you Florida was 18-3 before they lost 7 of their last 10 en route to NIT. It is true we have alot of history behind our basketball tradition but to say we are holding on to the glory days of the past would be inaccurate. We can just yet conclude that Tennessee is best team in the SEC this season since we still have alot of games still left to play. Plus all SEC teams are 0-0. Out of conference Kentucky already have couple of good wins versus West Virginia and K state, they may not be the best teams this year but these wins came on the neutral floor. Louisville lost to Western Kentucky you can not just yet give that game to Cardinals. They have their own problems. Thre is no shame in losing to Tar Heels by 19 this year just look what they did to Michigan State in their back yard at Ford Field. Just give Billy Gillispie two full year he will have Kentucky rolling again. Kentucky will give Tennessee all they can handle. GO CATS

Saw these guys in Orlando against the Zags--Tennessee plays some of the best defense I had ever seen. They're fast and they have that metality like they know what step two is before step one is complete. Def. keeping an eye on the Vols this winter.

on that note, Go Zags

Help me out here, how can you keep grouping Florida and Kentucky together as "premier, established programs". Yes, Florida has been good recently, but it takes more than a few seasons to "establish" a program.

The same goes for Tennessee, but I do like Bruce Pearl. He's been a winner everywhere he's coached. He's made Tennessee one of those teams that, even if he didn't have big name recruits, I still would be afraid to watch my team play his, because of the way his teams play.
